Kolkhoze & Sovkhoze sont deux copains soviétiques. Parce qu'ils crèvent de faim à cause de la famine et qu'ils ont osé manifesté, ils sont envoyés par le KGB en Sibérie, dans le camp de travail de Vorkoutlag. Là-bas, ils rencontrent Stakhanov. Leur nouvel ami va leur apprendre comment devenir productif tout en prenant du plaisir dans l'exécution des tâches quotidiennes du Goulag. Mais cet épanouissement est brisé par un coup de grisou qui dévaste le camp. Sans repères, nos deux amis partent pour le grand Nord où il se retrouvent pris dans le piège de l'hiver sibérien.
